I feel this is an important Commission. As an Australian Sculptor I brought fresh eyes to Ibiza, the pieces are strongly influenced by the many aspects of the island. The work was placed not "plonked". Earlier sculptural forms, from the many cultures which have inhabited the island, the wonderful stone walls of the island, its windmills, its dryness and its history have all impacted on the design of the pieces. These local influences combined with the style I have slowly evolved during the past thirty years in Australia produced hybrid works, different to what a Spanish sculptor would have produced. They are inclusive of previous cultural artifacts found on the island but also introduce a new cultural element. In many ways this process also reflects/ continues the changing cultural history of Ibiza itself. This notion of being part of rather than dominating over developing cultural and indeed environmental issues greatly appeals to me.
