PALMER SCULPTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL LANDSCAPE NEWS.
2005 represents for myself 30 years of working as a full-time sculptor in Australia. There are many stories to tell, genuine friendships made along the way and hard times as well. In the big picture there are few regrets, I am fortunate to be able to say that.
In November of this year a major central collection of my own sculpture will be launched at Palmer, at least 10 major works relating to the archetypal landscape of Palmer. Sculptures which speak of both the Aboriginal and European connections with this place. I believe this is the most important project I have worked on over the past 30 years. There will also be clear evidence of the large-scale environmental restoration I have been carrying out with Trees For Life over the last 4 years. The wonderful Andrew Allenson from Trees For Life lias been particularly important in this sometimes daunting project.
During the next Adelaide Festival [2006] the second Palmer Sculpture Biennial will take place, with artists from S.A., interstate and perhaps overseas. Geoff Bartlett from Victoria has been invited in recognition of his long and significant contribution to sculpture in Australia. This follows on from Bert FIugelmans participation 2004 as invited artist for his broad contributions to sculpture in
Australia. Two young artists will also be asked to exhibit, as was me case in 2004. All in all about 15 artists working in diverse ways will show work.
I would also like to thank Gavin Malone for his ongoing assistance with the Palmer Sculpture shows.
I hope people will be involved in the same enthusiastic and positive way which made the first show such a success!
